Scala 50 Schwarz-Weiß-Umkehrfilm, 35mm

The tonal range on this superpanchromatic stock is stunning—highlights stay crisp while shadows hold detail that I didn’t think slide film could manage. I’ve shot a few rolls now and the clear base makes projection incredibly punchy, exactly what I wanted for my night street shots.

Granted, it’s pricey, but the clear film base and that deep, rich Dmax make projection a genuine pleasure. I shot a roll on a gloomy day and the ultra-fine grain held every bit of texture in the brickwork. This is exactly the look I was hoping for in a slide film.

The clear film base really shows in the scans—whites stay crystal pure and blacks sink deep without any blue-gray fog creeping in. I’ve shot plenty of B&W negatives but this is my first slide film, and the ultra-fine grain makes even 35mm look almost medium-format sharp.
