Een traditionele middelzware zwart-witfilm, ILFORD FP4 PLUS biedt een fijne korrelstructuur met hoge scherpte en definitie, waardoor hij zeer geschikt is voor vergroten en scannen. Hij heeft een nominale gevoeligheid van ISO 125/22° in standaardchemicaliën en zijn zeer brede belichtingsmarge maakt het mogelijk om tot twee stops onder of zes stops over te belichten terwijl bruikbare resultaten behouden blijven.

Dit maakt FP4 PLUS een zeer capabele film voor de meeste fotografische onderwerpen en lichtomstandigheden, zoals portretten, mode, straatfotografie, productfotografie, landschappen en architectuur.
